Robertson does it again

This past Sunday, Pat Robertson launched into yet another controversy with his religious generalizations and divisive comments. I ran across his comments in a Belief.net article (more in the CBS report) that quoted Robertson as saying to George Stephanopoulous that federal jurists were a more serious threat to America than "a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings" and that Muslims were unfit to hold federal judgeships. "And they have said in the Quran there's a war against all infidels," Robertson said. "Do you want somebody like that sitting as a judge? I wouldn't." Of course you probably remember how God told Pat that Bush would win in a blowout in 2004 and "What I heard was that Bush is now positioned to have victory after victory. He'll have Social Security reform passed, that he'll have tax reform passed, that he'll have conservative judges on the courts." (For more, see Robertson's own site These are but a few of many comments (remember his agreement with Jerry Falwell's comments after 9-11?) that I believe makes Christians look hateful, wacky and anything but Christ-like. It is great to see more press coverage recently of Christians like Rick Warren, Jim Wallis and others who understand the need to be true to their own beliefs yet with sensitivity to people of all religions and not to see them with such monolithic eyes. We will do far more in our relations with Muslims and others by showing them our interest in them and by allowing them to see that we take seriously the commandment of Jesus to love our neighbor.
